Clinical Site Guidelines
  1. Clinical experience is a requirement for all programs offered by ANHO. Clinical experience for students is arranged by the school with the affiliating hospital, Long Term Care Facility, Doctor’s office, Clinic, etc. Not all sites are available at all times requested by ANHO due to community demand. Therefore, students and instructors are made aware that clinical experiences may be scheduled during day shifts, evening and/or night shifts, on any day of the week, including Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, and anywhere within a 50 mile radius of the school.
  2. No student is to perform any task while in a clinical environment not specifically assigned by the instructor. Any task not assigned by the instructor is not to be performed without consulting with his/her instructor prior to the performance of the task.
  3. All students are to:
    1. be properly dressed (in uniform)
    2. be prepared with appropriate tools (Pen, watch, stethoscope as appropriate)
    3. have on school identification badge and facility ID badge (as may be required)
    4. be professionally attired (hair, fingernails, jewelry, shoes, etc. – see ANHO dress code)
    5. Exceptions may be made in dress code at the request of the affiliating facility
  4. Attendance will be taken on each clinical day as attendance is required.
  5. Any student arriving late is to contact the instructor responsible for the clinical rotation and follow instructions. Any student unable to attend his/her clinical experience is to call his/her instructor in advance of the start of the shift.
  6. Any student needing to leave his/her assigned clinical area is to notify the instructor before leaving to get permission, review who is designated to be responsible for his/her assignment and report off to the nurse in charge.
  7. Pre and Post conferences will be at a designated time and place. Attendance is required.
  8. Clinical Hours are determined by the clinical facility and comply with regulatory requirements; there can be no exceptions to the planned hours.

POLICY: Clinical Experience

There are four forms of Clinical Experience available in the Academy’s Programs:
1.  Direct, “hands-on” experience requiring the direct supervision of an instructor employed by the school in attendance at the facility. Preceptors will not be used.
2.  Community Based, requiring indirect supervision of an instructor employed by the school available by telephone. There will be no invasive complicated activities performed in this setting.

The following two forms of clinical experience do not require the utilization of an offsite faculty; therefore, no clinical requirements are necessary

3.  Simulated Experience includes such things as Simulation Lab, Hesi case studies, and demonstrations
4.  Clinical Application includes learning activities
The Academy obtains signed agreements with all facilities and community agencies providing clinical experience which are kept on file at the school. The agreements include: responsibilities of each party, type of work for each participant, supervision given to each participant, method of evaluating student’s work and certifying that it is satisfactory; responsibility for prior arrangement of clinical experiences, and confirmation that the number of students is compatible with the capacity of the clinical site.
